Hi, it’s Wednesday! So happy to have some new readers with us!
Usually this newsletter is strictly just-for-fun, but I have had Israel and Gaza on my mind daily, as I’m sure you have.
As I write this, I am sitting in my sweats, drinking a cup of tea, with my baby sleeping soundly and my other three children safe (I think) in their classrooms. I am trying but know it’s impossible to fully fathom the complexity of the war in the Mideast. My heart breaks for the lives lost and the devastation wrought by such horrific violence. I realize how stupidly lucky I am and how blessedly uncomplicated my life is. If you’re a praying person, I add my prayers to yours that somehow, the Creativity and Love of our Higher Power will be able to heal every heart and ease every pain. Soon.
today’s bouquet
On Saturday, we’ll be gathering for a paddle out in honor of our wonderful friend Jonathan. I’m shooting film from the shore, as usual, but I’m also going to be photographing with a drone for the first time! I’m nervous!
Update: the Texan format for kids addressing adults works for lots of us. Also, we can always borrow Bluey’s method and stick with “[Lucky’s] Dad.”
Did you catch my guest post on OKYP all about mugs?!
My girls keep asking me if they can watch the Harry Potter movies and I keep telling them no because I am a Mean Mom. (For more info on becoming a Mean Mom, see
.) We’ve read the first three books out loud and just started listening to the audiobook of Sorcerer’s Stone in the car. I’m scheming to give them these illustrated editions for Christmas and hoping that will scratch the itch. Sorry not sorry for hating the movies! This AMA on mythbusting skincare/ beauty is worth the deep dive. JD is a big reason I deleted my skincare routines.
Breathtaking: Yo-Yo Ma plays beside a stream in the Great Smoky Mountains.
A butter club? I’m listening.
Before my baby turns one, I want to make a rag rug.

Photographs of storms, shot from the cockpit.
A nice, slow, silly game.
Last night we saw DCFC + The Postal Service perform at the Hollywood Bowl! Talk about teenage dream come true! Nate and I couldn’t believe we were actually hearing songs we’d listening to a million times since high school, performed live. We felt like true elder millennials in love!
Also, I met Roy Choi while we were waiting in line for concessions and had absolutely zero chill about it. If you don’t know Roy Choi, watch this and this, eat this, and grab this.
in my basket
For someone who eats a lot of salad, I am embarrassed to say I have never owned a pair of pretty serving spoons. I love this pair with swallows on them! Reminds me of my childhood!
What do you wear on Thanksgiving? Do you dress up? I love the chaotic moment when the table is set, and someone says, “Go change, we’re about to eat!” You know I love my tablecloth blouse. Here are a few slightly less pilgrimcore picks to wet your whistle:
An off-white eyelet dress would be really pretty for hosting in.
This Ulla Johnson look is perfectly autumnal, I’d say. (via Jen)
Sezane makes the most romantic cardigans that would be easy to dress up or dress down.
I’m about 80% decided that I’m wearing this red cottage plaid blouse this year.
And if you’re looking for a just-right black top, this is the one.

Alex Steele + Roy Choi + DCFC is the collab I didn't know I needed to hear about it, but so glad that I did.
