hi, it’s wednesday!
*inhales deeply*
Um, I’m trying something! Will you give this a listen?
Putting this out there kind of feels like walking down the street in my underwear. So nerve-wracking! I’m crossing all my fingers and toes you’ll want to join in this new series with me… Let me know what you think, would you?
“Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it.”
—Judy Blume
on poise
If you’ve been reading Handpicked a long time (maybe since the Alex Emails days), you know I’m a very religious person, though my religious views have evolved drastically throughout my adult life. This Sunday, I’m giving a short talk at church, eek. I’ve been looking for interesting material I can quote and came upon this great talk on poise. You might like it, especially if you’re a church-going person. And even if you aren’t, there’s a great one-liner from John Wooden at the beginning!
today’s bouquet
Tomorrow we’re headed to the Getty and my kids are bringing this :)
I saw E.T. for the first time over the weekend! My kids had never seen it either, and we all loved it (minus a handful of curse words Nate had forgotten about, haha). Now about a hundred cultural references finally make sense! I can’t get over how cute little six-year-old Drew Barrymore was in it. When I was really little, my family lived in Porter Ranch, where they filmed parts of the movie. My sister Emily and I even used to play at the playground where they ride their bikes, we called it E.T. Park. Have you ever seen this clip of Elliott’s audition for the film? Amazing.
Got my eye on: pearly details. I’d love to wear this romantic garnet/pearl combo in my second piercing. This stacking ring is so dainty (and a great price). Wouldn’t you love to keep this serving board and coasters out on display? Pearls that grow! Pearls for crafting! A shiny swirly phone case.
Two links from Nate: sometimes, you gotta push yourself, yknow? And, quite possibly, the most earnest, heartfelt school musical number of 2023.
Not to make a children’s toy completely about me, but I am utterly jubilant over this Target cart toy.
If you ask me, Mini Rodini x Wrangler is the cutest collab of the summer – can you stand these little overalls?
I’ll take one of each from the new Hawaii National Parks collection from Park Project!
Some people know exactly how to describe summer.
Made me laugh: buns on a bathmat
Actual footage of me feeding the baby in the comfy chair at 2:30am
This little reminder on the lid of the formula feels so good every time I make Mick a bottle, especially after the inundation of “breast is best” and the guilt when that didn’t work out (four times)
