painting / photographs
One thing I haven’t done yet is paint a close up. I’m trying to get the guts to paint portraits of my kids, gulp. But I’m going to ease into portraits with some friendly fall leaf faces, feels appropriate for the season:
I’m about halfway done with my Tinge Floral piece…
Who are your favorite artists/ painters to follow? I’d love to check them out.
Oh my gosh you guys, I cannot stop laughing at Nate’s recent chocolate milk disaster. As soon as he started telling me what happened, I had to record it…
today’s bouquet
Matching: the mother + daughter section at Boden is a *goldmine.* A handful of sweet combos at Doen, too. Thanks to Jojo B. for asking in the comments last week!
Over the weekend, we listened to some of our church’s general conference, a 2x/year summit where church leaders get to talk about anything they want. My favorite talk was this one on meditation.
Of course I’m oBsEsSeD with these oil paintings of snacks!
Appreciated this thoughtful take on the Salem Witch Trials.
Paper moths, eek!
Paper quilts, wow.
My friend Fern does the most amazing Halloween makeup videos!
Show the kids: the world’s smallest Rubik’s cube.
Well, I wasn’t ready for a Where the Wild Things Are book report to make me cry, but here we are.
Currently reading: The Secret Life of Groceries. This book is gnarly. A must-read if you’re a Questioner with a strong stomach and healthy rage at corporate greed.
Would 100% sport a Margaret Wise Brown ballcap. (via Moonbow)
Oh, how I YEARN for peapods and snails on my cupboard doors. (Alas, the landlord.)
Isn’t this dress gorgeous? I’d pair it with black tights for a fancy date.
If I had a limitless budget, all my sweatshirts would feature lace shoulders.
prime day facts
I spent $163.16 on Amazon Prime Day. Here’s everything I bought.
Just so you know, if you click on any of my links, and then you make a purchase on that site, I get a commission on your whole purchase. Even if you don’t buy the item I originally linked. I can’t see what you bought, or even that it was you who bought it, but I do get a tiny percentage of your whole order. Which is one of the reasons why a lot of influencers are recommending more expensive items right now. So, thank you for your clicks! And if you’re in the market for a big ticket item, let me know — I’d love to send you a link to it ;-)
“Betty often complained about her. Whenever Betty needed something, her granddaughter seemed inconvenienced, acted as though Betty were interrupting her very important life. Of course she was interrupting.
As people we interrupted one another’s lives— that was what we did. If you sought to live your life without interruption you wound up like me: living life without interruption, totally alone.
I wanted to tell Betty’s granddaughter that it wasn’t too late. That I had been like her, once, resentful of any interruptions. Later, I learned that life lay in the interruptions — that I had been wrong about life, entirely.”

For our Jewish readers: a floral menorah and the prettiest challah platter.
kacey
On Friday night, we saw Kacey Musgraves perform at the Forum, and you guys, it was truly magical. It’s been a really hard year for me, and something in my heart healed a little as I scream-sang every word of these songs that mean so much.
About halfway through the show, she ran off stage and suddenly reappeared a few feet away from us(!) on her way to a smaller grassy stage in the middle of the floor, where she performed several songs under a huge Saturn. She was barefoot on the mainstage, and I noticed she had put on a pair of green Hunter boots to walk back and forth between performances. SO CUTE!
three things
Three things from Trader Joe’s in my kitchen right now:
Strawberry kefir
Vanilla pumpkin candle
“There was once a very great American surgeon named Halsted. He was married to a nurse. He loved her—immeasurably.
One day Halsted noticed that his wife’s hands were chapped and red when she came back from surgery. And so he invented rubber gloves. For her. It is one of the great love stories in medicine. The difference between inspired medicine and uninspired medicine is love...
[He] loved her to the point of invention.”— Sarah Ruhl
