Woof, the sharing of kid photos. I also have a lot of thoughts and some worries about it and avoid sharing their faces too (though I couldn’t resist one in my recent post…I still might take it out 🙈). Lovely newsletter as always.
yes, it's so hard to know. i shared almost daily photos of my kids on instagram for almost nine years... now with the likes of ruby franke and others, i just worry about how i'll answer for my behavior when my kids are adults who might not want their childhood photos available for all to see? but then, i have such a small audience, so is anyone even seeing them?! so complicated
Love Eleanor's birthday present. Love flying a kite on the beach. Love that Nate wants DP. And, going to save my money for that perfect belt.
My 9 year old came home from school and asked if I know what a digital footprint is and asked how big mine was. We had a convo about it and I told her that that is why I don't have social media on my phone, why I don't "like" things all over the place (one time she watched a video with me and wanted me to "like" it), etc. But, the best thing that I was able to tell her was that I haven't shown her face online for over 2 years (instagram) (I did share pics of her on substack for her baptism dress I made a year ago). But, I wanted her to know that I was aware of that for her sake and she straight up told me I was a good mom.
