What a wonderful quote to start with. Kurt V was right - nothing is springier than May and June, and it's slightly less discouraging to see it continuing to snow where I live if I let go of the idea that April is supposed to be spring. Happy unlocking season!
I really recommend A Ghost In The Throat, which was recommended to me by another reader of Magpie by Jen Shoop. Stunning! It caught me from the very first line: "This is a female text." So haunting and transportive and yet anchored in new motherhood.
My son was allergic to eggs until this year, so our alt was making a butter lamb (traditional in Poland), and my mom always made an Easter basket cake with her carrot zucchini bread, coconut dyed green, and cream cheese frosting.
I Am A Bunny is truly the best!! My daughter is already obsessed with it at 14 months, and my 4yo son is learning how to read (and it was one of his favorites as a baby/toddler), so now he’s reading it to her 😭😭😭
And what a fabulous KV quote. He has such a way with words.
Have you read Foster by Claire Keegan? It *just barely* edged out Small Things Like These for me, but I truly think she is one of the most brilliant writers. Ireland’s literary scene is on 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks as always for your newsletter—it brings me so much joy!
Alex, this was such a feast—for the eyes, the heart, and the imagination. That Vonnegut quote cracked something open in me. “Unlocking” is exactly what March and April feel like. (Also: the Coral & Tusk lamb-in-pocket pillow?? I gasped.) Loved seeing the hair journey too—felt like I was in your bathroom cheering you on with the curling iron and straightener combo. 😂 Thanks for always sharing with such light, honesty, and style. Your newsletters feel like a letter from a dear friend I didn’t know I needed. 💛
Anton this is so kind of you, thank you!! Laughing at your support of my hair journey, it's so amatuer of me haha so i appreciate the cheers ;) and i'm so glad you're enjoying handpicked. you're so kind. xoxo

I wish that FollowSuit was still in stock in my size, I always think it's amazing when I see someone in it. This bag caught my eye: https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/cult-gaia-the-backgammon-clutch-bag-prod278920048
I grew up on those Beatrix Potter videos too! I'll always remember the Roly Poly Kitten.
I just bought two of these Peter rabbit books to give as gifts, my son loved Peter Rabbit and the Lost Hat peep-inside book. We have not one but 2 rabbit-themed birthdays for two year old girls this weekend. https://www.amazon.com/Peter-Rabbit-Forest-Homes-Peep-Inside/dp/0241618185/ref=pd_aw_sbs_m_sccl_1/138-9763311-4726524?

WOW I loved all of this!!
Just put A Ghost in the Throat on my list based on that first line alone!
That bag omggg. I don't even know how to play backgammon and i want it, haha.
I'm almost at the point of a Beatrix Potter tattoo. Just added that precious book to my card!
Your Easter traditions sound magnificent. Why have I never made a carrot themed dessert for Easter?! Brilliant.
