Big announcement today!
Handpicked Print Shop is coming! The shop features my film photographs, including familiar favorites as well as never-before-seen pieces. Everything in the shop has been carefully curated and (ahem!) handpicked from my archives, and I’m so excited to see these photographs hanging in your homes very soon. The shop will open its “doors” on Etsy on my birthday, July 18!
For a long time, I've wanted to offer my artwork to you at an accessible price. Each piece will cost $9.99. They’ll be sold in digital download format so that you can choose the size you prefer and print at your convenience.
I’ve had the biggest butterflies as I’ve been getting the shop ready to share with you all, and I really hope you’ll love it.
Here’s a sneak peak:
The shop opens next week, July 18th!
Special thanks to my lab, Rewind Film Lab, for their integral contribution in bringing my negatives to life, and to my designer, Megan Summers, who was the key in the lock to help me finally open this shop and make a dream a reality.

Are you shopping the Prime Day sales? I'm stocking up on a couple of things, like Playdoh and Instax film. My girls wish they were getting these Lisa Frank Crocs. (But no, they got some sensible glitter ones.) If you don't have a blender you love, today is the day to get one. Believe the hype about Vitamix – I got mine as a wedding gift twelve years ago and it still runs like new. And if you have a kid between the ages of 1 and 10, these magnetic tiles are worth every cent. And finally, the House That Lars Built has curated a colorful, crafty batch of Prime Day picks if you're looking for something fun to throw in your cart!
Alert, the Doen sample sale is on! I love this delicate white top (it’s over 60% off) and this spring floral dress that's almost 50% off.
Rag and Pulp, the latest issue of Uppercase Magazine, is all about creating with paper. Remember when I made it into Issue 47?! (page 75)
Gosh I love this: "Come over for..."
One of each from the Heirloom Art Co midsummer collection, please! Especially this thistle music box and strawberry platter. (via HP readers Emily and Cynthia)
Adding this sweet version of Somewhere Only We Know to my covers playlist.
Fingerprint jewelry has made its way back to my line of sight after I first spotted these precious thumbprint charms three years ago (seen here!).
I'd love to try this type of photographic process.
Curious what you think about this take: “Social media is over – what next?” Will you share in the comments? By the way, if you hit "reply" to this email, your note will come straight to my inbox! I love hearing from you.
A simple, wonderful tradition at the Big Sur River Inn: dragging an Adirondack chair to the middle of the river behind the property. “‘How do the chairs work? Can I reserve a chair for a certain time on a certain day? And do you serve food at the chairs?’ The answers are, in order: You sit in them, no, and no.”

Charlie and I had a good laugh at this video of people screaming as loud as they can. (Warning: language isn't appropriate for a four-year-old)

I was chatting with a friend this week who’s also off of Instagram. We agreed we are happy with our decisions to quit, but also really miss certain things. For her, it was the sense of community and people knowing her latest news, and, like I’ve said before, for me it’s the conversations I’d have in my DM’s. So, can I ask you for your opinion? I want to add another layer to Handpicked that's more conversational…
Thanks! And if you ever have something more to add, you can always reply directly to these emails.
“You are positively enormous. You have so many cells that if you formed all the DNA in your body into a single file strand, it would stretch ten billion miles – to beyond Pluto. Think of it. There is enough of you to leave the Solar System. You are, in the most literal sense, cosmic.”
– Bill Bryson

“I've found that it's of some help to think of one's moods and feelings about the world as being similar to weather.
Here are some obvious things about the weather: It’s real. You can't change it by wishing it away. If it's dark and rainy it really is dark and rainy and you can't alter it. It might be dark and rainy for two weeks in a row.
But. It will be sunny one day.
In the same way that one has to accept the weather, so one has to accept how one feels about life sometimes. “Today's a crap day,” is a perfectly realistic approach. It's all about finding a kind of mental umbrella. “Hey-ho, it's raining inside: it isn’t my fault and there's nothing I can do about it, but sit it out. But the sun may well come out tomorrow and when it does, I shall take full advantage.”
