Re: cold & crew necks, this too is my daily struggle. I am too much of a coward to simply wear a long sleeve shirt because I’ll get hot but won’t have an under layer and for some reason pushing sleeves up doesn’t help. Cashmere (and merino as an alt) are my secret weapons for constantly being cold in winter (I use “cold” carefully as this is all happening in my LA aparment, lol). I think the temperature regulating of the wool can make a difference so when it hits 65 and everyone else is in shorts and tshirts I haven’t completely overheated. And I love to search for it second hand so the price point is low, but it’s something that will also last forever. I rented a Kule Betty crewneck through Nuuly then bought it and have worn it anywhere from once a week to every day all year long. It’s wool so you can wear it a million times before you need to launder it. If I’m really cold, it’s the base layer so the cashmere is directly on my skin.

I tried to do cardigans, they’re obviously superior for layering, but I haven’t found one that functions in the same way as a crew neck. I feel like ideally it’s a cashmere blend cardigan that’s just a little bulky that I can put a t shirt under.

You have blessed me greatly with this comment. My sister worked at Kule for years and she said you're precisely correct, that the Betty is perfect for me and my "cold" house (drafty in winter months and we're too cheap to turn the heat on). I also snagged a wool/ cashmere blend red pullover sweater from Madewell that I'm sure I'll wear for decades. I tested it out with no shirt under and it really did keep me warm. Like magic! TYSM for sharing your wisdom!

You need lightweight wool, even in CA. Look for merino or merino/blend or even (gasp) cashmere. Quince has some lovely options that are very affordable for natural fibers!

Funny story, I had a Quince wool blend/ cashmere cardigan that accidentally ended up in the washing machine and shrank down to my 10 yo's size (she wears it all the time, lol). I had forgotten about it and I'm definitely going to grab a couple things from there post-Christmas. You're so right about the wool. Thank you for the tip!!

Hahahaha what color do you have? "Bye kids - you can find me on the pier if you need me!"

Yes yes I neeeeddd this. Did you wear a pink version of this in the portrait we made??

Yes! My camel one is my fave now, but the (sold out) light blue would be so easy chic with lighter/mid-wash denim for monochromatic looks.

Re: crinkle cookies. I tried them last year and they were a huge fail. Tried them last week with Joanna Gaines recipe and they turned out perfect. 👌 it does have shortening though which I don’t love so going to try it with just butter and see what happens🤞

Ohhh wow I need to try!! I read in Stella Parks' book Bravetart that cold coconut oil can work as a sub for shortening, especially if it's refined (as in, you don't want the virgin coconut oil) because refined loses its coconut flavor a bit and becomes more of a neutral flavor like shortening.

Ohhh!! I’ll try it too! Thanks!

Awwww! thank you! you are the reason I unexpectedly had a few new followers! Thank you. :) Also, speaking of cookies, my cookie press broke and I am not on the hunt for a new/or antique one. I love spritz cookies!!

What's wrong with me that I have never owned a cookie press and I have never made spritz cookies!

H&M sells several lady jackets with gold buttons made of sweatshirt material if you’re just looking for a theoretical change! I like the French girl move of a cardigan tucked into jeans with nothing underneath but I can’t actually bear it unless it’s either cotton or the super soft Neiman Marcus cashmere. For the truly cold, Uniqlo’s heattech line is as good as they say (I’ve had some pieces 15 years!) but I prefer the smooth layering fabric of their t-shirts to the textured fleecy knit they use in sweaters and leggings. I have a black boatneck tee that is super warm and makes me feel like a ballerina

A ballerina is *precisely* the vibe I am in search of!! Thanks Kelly!
