Hi! First things first: Two and a half minutes of wisdom I borrowed from my friend Audrey. Featuring backup vocals by my small child.

Lucy turned 8! We went to the flower market and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, then three friends came over for Aunt Kathryn’s Famous Chocolate Cake. And that’s how we birthday around here, people.
I removed the paywall on all of the Deep Dives, enjoy :-)
This story about compliments broke my heart!
Spoiler: YES.
Can we get a category for best thank you speech?
The coolest person I know sent me a lunar tracker in the mail (they’re not available online but here’s the story of mine). I refuse to toss the package because it’s got her handwriting on it!
Brown butter banana bars are at the top of my to-do list.
Made me smile: putting our heads together. (via Emily)
The Killers is my all-time favorite band, so naturally I gobbled up every minute of this terrific interview with Brandon Flowers. They cover everything from religion, to Elton John, to hearing Mr. Brightside come to life – if you love The Killers, do not miss. (via Johnathan)
Quiz: what habit will make you happier? My results didn’t surprise me…
*Beside myself* for the wood floors and checkerboard shower in this remodeled New York farmhouse. (via Lizzy)
What we have here is a redwood forest ranger with Jack Black energy, which is precisely what we needed. (via CA Sun)
in my cart
This morning I was irresponsibly scrolling Doen’s new Prelude collection… wouldn’t we love it if the weather would take a hint from this buttery, sunshiney cardigan? And the delicate details in this white Peter Pan dress would photograph beautifully, especially in engagement photos or an Heirloom Portrait.
My artsy daughters *live* for sewing-adjacent crafts. I’ve been hunting for some that create less waste; this woven potholder and wool rug hooking kit fit the bill. Don’t mind if I add some radicchio dishes and a fantastic pitcher to my cart while we’re here.
I’m picky about baseball hats, but I LOVE this one. Lizzy gave me the locket for my birthday last year and I always get compliments on it (many of which come from my 5 year old, haha).
TYSM to Ourside for giving us a create-your-own option for perfume.
Blue platter, please be mine.
Thought it would be another 20 years til I needed these. But nope.
practice
Transitioned all the hymns from piano to organ; practicing legato on the piano at home daily, organ 2x/wk. Very slow progress! I’m working on not stopping to correct myself when I miss a note.
Piano: Easier Piano Hymns II, Tell Me the Stories of Jesus, pg 4
Organ: LDS Hymns 116, 117, 125, 192, 195 and 196

“Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.”

My husband got me a lunar tracker for Xmas! My kids tease me that they’ll say “ooh a full moon” and I’ll be all “ACTUALLY....”
Friendly Loom FTW. It's fun, easy, creates something useful (and you can use so much more than just cotton loops -- I've started cutting up old wool socks that are past further mending, so now I have wool potholders, and they're amazing). There are also tons of YouTube tutorials for *other* things you can make on the potholder loom. Highly recommend.
