Depending on the moment, a different angle of that speech slices me in half. Right now, it’s the lack of dimension he assumes of women — the flatness of a woman’s experience and existence. How can he see other humans so shallowly? It leaves me with a gut-churning type of rage-sadness that feels HEAVY. Particularly because I’m a stay at home mom of two toddlers who has a masters degree in education and I’m constantly navigating/redefining my view of the world of motherhood/ambition/what-is-work?/UGH. I’m just so angry that his views reflect a narrative that completely disregards the beautiful complexity of my experience AND THEN he frame s it within a context of religious superiority (that’s another part that makes me want to explode)…as if God would have it this way. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. I could go on forever. I’m livid.

SO WELL SAID KATIE. Thank you for this incredibly meaningful response. He’s so condescending it makes me see red.

I’ve only heard the snippets of his talk…mostly I thought that no (famous/athlete) person ever would want to give a message at BYU. 🙄

He made it all about him. Mentioned Jesus so many times and yet the whole thing always circled back to focus on himself

I think you deserve a gold star for going 8 days without yelling. I’m winning if I can go 8 hours. Those moments when your intuition is right are so golden ✨

Just started a "couch to 5k" program two weeks ago, so the running recs are particularly apt for me! I've spent the last two weeks wondering why none of my shorts have pockets for my phone - ha!
